TROOP 149

CODE OF CONDUCT

Scouts are expected to obey the Troop 149 Code of Conduct, which is based on the principles of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. The purpose of the Code is to ensure that everyone has fun while achieving the objectives of Scouting. Behavior not consistent with the rules stated below may result in disciplinary action including Warnings, Probation, or Expulsion from the Troop.

Scouts will:

· Live by the Scout Oath, Law, and Outdoor Code

· Show respect for Authority (SPL, ASPL, PL, APL, SM, ASM, JASM, Troop Committee Member, etc.) and for Fellow Scouts. Scouts are expected to follow all instructions given by leaders. Scouts must treat leaders in a respectful manner. All leaders are expected to treat scouts in a similar manner.

· Wear the complete scout uniform with respect.

· Tell the truth.

· Stay current in paying Scout fees including registration, trips, and events.

Scouts will not:

· Act in a loud or disorderly manner at meetings.

· Throw or shoot any objects except as part of an approved Scout or Troop activity.

· Verbally or physically intimidate, bully, harass, or otherwise harm other Scouts or any other living creature.

· Use knives or fire inappropriately. Use knives, ax, saw or fire without proper Chip or Chit.

· Leave campsite, meeting, or event without permission from the Scoutmaster or Senior Patrol Leader.

· Take or use anything not belonging to them without the permission of the owner.

· Litter campsites, meeting rooms or other areas.

Consequences for Violation of the Code of Conduct:

First Level:

Issuance of a Verbal Warning. Verbal Warning may be issued by: (a) the Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster, (b)the Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, or any other adult by obtaining concurrence from the Scoutmaster or Assistant Scoutmaster. More than Two Verbal Warnings per meeting or event will result in Second Level action.

Second Level:

Scout will be dismissed from the meeting or activity at the discretion of the activity leader and the scout’s parent/guardian will be notified and asked to come and pick the Scout up. Reinstatement will occur at the following meeting or troop activity at the discretion of the SM, ASM, PL or APL.

Third Level:

A total of Three Second Level dismissals will result in a scout appearing before the Troop Tribunal – Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders, and Two Adult Leaders. The Tribunal will hear the offense and dispense consequence either: finding that the scout is being treated unfairly, meaning the scout is innocent; or guilty and advancement is delayed, the scout is suspended, or the scout is recommended for termination.

Fourth Level:

Scout Troop Committee termination meeting, including the Scoutmaster, The Senior Patrol Leader, the Scout’s Patrol Leader, the activity Leader (if any), the parent(s)/guardian(s) and the Scout will meet. They will consider termination of the scout’s Troop membership or re-admittance to scout meetings / events only when closely accompanied by the scout’s parent(s)/guardian(s) who must agree to supervise the scout and take corrective action when appropriate.

Amendment #1

Purpose: This amendment to the Code of Conduct should include that we will be using consecutive verbal warnings. These verbal warnings will carry over for a period of time.

Initiative: At the 1/2/2005 Greenbar meeting – the period agreed upon was one (1) months time.

Amendment: Each scout will get two (2) verbal warnings before being immediately dismissed from an activity / meeting. Then being allowed to return at the next activity/meeting. This means that a warning may be assigned and will stay on the scout’s record for one month (31 days after the date of the warning.). If after one month, no other instances of violation occur, their record starts new. Vice versa – if the scout has two warnings, they may be dismissed from the meeting/activity immediately. No more official warnings are required.
